Shooting suspect flees police, later caught

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka Police say the suspect in a recent shooting fled authorities Friday afternoon, and was later arrested.

Shaun Hightower, 44, was arrested for aggravated battery. TPD says the charge stems from a May 14 shooting in the 3100 block of SE Pisces. The victim showed up at a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

TPD says an officer spotted Hightower around 12:30 p.m. Friday at a convenience store in the Oakland neighborhood. He evaded capture, but officers later found the vehicle on Lower Silver Lake Rd. near Button Rd., where they took Hightower into custody.

Authorities at the scene initially told 13 NEWS a second person who was in the vehicle remained on the run, and that person was suspected in the shooting. It is unclear whether authorities are still looking for a second person.
