Shawnee Co Republicans to elect new Sheriff today

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Shawnee County Republican precinct committee members will elect a new Sheriff today.

In a special convention at Highland Park High School, the candidates will speak to convention before the election. The event is set to begin at 10:00am, and end once a majority is reached.

The only candidates to make their intentions public are Kansas Bureau of Investigation officials Doug Younger and Tony Weingartner, former Topeka Police Detective Brian Hill and former Linn County Sheriff and retired Shawnee County Court Administrator Don Troth.

Each candidate will have 10 minutes to speak, and then there will be a 30 minute question and answer session.

To be an official candidate, they must be nominate by a percent member, and then there has to be a second.

A winner will be declared when one candidate receive over 50% of the vote.
