Shawnee Co. Commission approves new position for Sheriff Office

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office is looking to fill a new crime-fighting position.

County Commissioners approved the Sheriff’s request to hire a Criminal Analyst.

According to the Sheriff, the person would help them become more predictive of crime trends, to help prevent crimes.

It could also assist in catching criminals.

"By bringing in this position somebody with a lot of experience cannot only look at the crime analyst software but can also look at reports and try and identify MOs to determine when and where crimes may occur so we can help prevent them and hopefully capture the subjects that we aren't to prevent from committing crimes," said Maj. Shane Hoobler.

The Sheriff's Office hopes to fill the position as soon as possible.
