JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Geary Co. Sheriff’s Patrol Sergeant John Lytle grew up in Junction City and knew at a young age that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father, Tim Brown - the former Police Chief of Junction City.

He joined the Geary Co. Sheriff’s Office in July 2015 as a corrections officer and quickly moved up the ranks. Now, he is a patrol sergeant with goals to make a positive change in the community.

“[A]ctually helping and assisting people, as well. You kinda get that fulfillment,” he says. “There’s not a lot of jobs you can get that from, but I think law enforcement is one of those.”

Lytle’s supervisor Eric Coffman says he’s know Lytle since he was in elementary schools is proud to serve with him.

“I’ve know john since he was a little kid and I’ve watched him grow up and ultimately became his supervisor, so it’s actually kind of cool,” Coffman says. “John stands out to me as a very good law enforcement officer, a well rounded law enforcement officer.”

Lytle says he wants to build a trusting relationship with the community. He plans to have a long career with the Gear Co. Sheriff’s Office and says, sometime down the road, he’d like to run for sheriff.

So, the next time you see Sgt. Lytle driving around Geary Co., give him a wave, he’ll likely return it with a smile.
