SNCO Sheriff's Office opens doors looking for applicants

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- If you’re looking for a new job, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office may have an opportunity for you.

The Sheriff’s Office is looking for people to fill a variety of positions not just uniformed deputies.

“It’s the old Henry Ford,” Sheriff Herman Jones said. “If you do the same thing expecting a different result, it’s insane.”

On hand were members of dispatch, communications, animal control as well as uniformed deputies.

"They probably haven't come up and talked face to face to someone who works here,” Jones said. “If all we do is get individuals to understand what it’s like to be in law enforcement, that's what's important for us."

Logan Stoddard’s interest in law enforcement brought him to the career fair. The soon to be college grad from Wamego looks forward to applying.

"I love the community. Anything community based, I love doing it,” Stoddard said. “It's something I’ve always wanted to do since I was a kid. My father was a firefighter, so I knew I wanted to do something with helping people."

"We’re looking for individuals with good character, good moral aspects and a good work ethic,” Jones said. “Along with all that, we're looking for individuals that are selfless."

If you missed out on the career fair Wednesday, you can still call the Sheriff's Office at (785) 368-2200 or visit their website for more information on job openings.
