KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Police officers shot and killed a man Tuesday morning after he reportedly threatened the nearby Legends Outlets while at a Kansas City-area hotel, KCTV5 reports.

Officer Jonathan Westbrook said during a news conference that officers were called Tuesday to the Country Inn and Suites, at 1805 N 110th St., near the Legends Outlet shopping district after a manager reported a heavily-armed man entered the business and said he had killed his wife.

"I just murdered my wife. I'm armed and dangerous. I'm headed to the Legends. You better call police." That's what the man, whose name has not been released, said when he walked up to the front desk, General Manager Jacob Honeycutt told KCTV5.

Westbrook said the man was armed with an assault rifle when officers found him. He says the man fired at police, and they shot and killed him.

Westbrook says police are investigating the reports that the man said he killed his wife.

No police officers were injured. Police say the suspect didn't make it into the Legends businesses

KCTV5 identified the suspect as Charles Pearson. Additionally, police and other sources tell the station Pearson is related to a missing persons case in Overland Park.

Police there are searching for Silvia Pearson, who they say left her home on Monday and has not returned. Authorities have not confirmed if she has been harmed.

Because it was a deadly officer-involved shooting, the KCK Police Dept. has asked the Topeka Police Dept. to join in the investigation.

The shooting closed I-70 westbound and spurred extra security precautions at the Legends Outlets, who released the following statement:
