TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A new facility will help Harvesters reach more hungry families and seniors in northeast Kansas.
Harvesters recently purchased the Topeka Distribution Center and gave tours of the latest renovations to the facility Tuesday morning.
"Harvesters made a commitment to the Topeka community that we wanted to be a permanent presence, and I think today really says that loud and clear," Valerie Nicholson-Watson, Harvesters President and CEO, said.
Upgrades include a new area for volunteer activities, a larger freezer and cooler, handicap accessibility, and additional racking to store food.
The warehouse portion of the building is now over 41,000 square feet.
"We have a beautiful new building that will enable us to fee more people and do so more efficiently," Nicholson-Watson added.
Thanks to Topeka Metro, Harvesters also has a new produce bus which will deliver fresh fruits and veggies to seniors.
