6 hurt in Hwy. 24 wreck between Manhattan & Riley

RILEY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Five children were hurt Tuesday night, at least two of them seriously, in a three-vehicle crash that closed a highway in Riley County.

One of those involved was a Westar vehicle.

According to the KHP Crash Log, a vehicle driven by Lauren VanMeter, 25, was stopped at Highway 24 and failed to yield while attempting to make a left turn on to Highway 77. This is the turnoff to the town of Riley.

She was hit by Darrell Thompson, 59, of Wamego, and his vehicle then crossed the center line and crashed into a car driven by Mason Miller

Five juveniles and VanMeter were transported to area hospitals. A juvenile female was airlifted to the University of Kansas Hospital, she's in serious condition.

Thompson and Miller were not injured.

The wreck closed US-24 in both directions.
