TOPEKA (WIBW)--- You may now call Sen. Bob Dole, colonel!
A ceremony celebrating his honorary promotion up the ranks was held Thursday at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Congress unanimously passed a measure earlier this year to bestow the honor on the 95-year-old WWII Veteran.
Dole is from Russell, Kansas, he earned two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars for Valor.
He called this the icing on the cake of a great life.
"Thank you all for being who you are, and what you stand for, and that you love America," Dole said. "You're willing to fight for America, regardless the consequences."
Members of the Kansas Delegation, along with Secretary of State and former Wichita area congressman Mike Pompeo, joined Dole and his wife Elizabeth for Thursday's events. He'll turn 96 in about two months.
