TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) Topeka Police are investigating if an overnight shooting at the College Hill Apartments was self-inflicted, or the act of someone else.

Lt. Aaron Jones says police arrived to the 1400 block of SW Washburn just before 1:15 a.m.

When they arrived, they found a man suffering from an apparent shotgun wound to his lower abdomen.

Jones says they believe the shooting was self-inflicted, however, they say a conflicting report indicated the victim was shot by another man.

The victim -- who has only been identified as a male in his 50's -- was taken to the hospital.  He is expected to recover.

Jones says detectives continue to process the scene and follow up on additional leads.

The victim was known to law enforcement because of past encounters.

The shooting happened about a block away from an April 28, 2019 shooting that killed Washburn Football Player Dwane Simmons.
