TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Police have identified a person of intered in Tuesday's shooting in south Topeka.
Nineteen-year-old Jessie Hughes is wanted on two counts of Aggravated Battery, two counts of Aggravated Assault, and two counts of Child Endangerment.
He reportedly left the scene of the shooting, at the Carriage House Apts., in a brown, four-door car. Police warn that he is considered armed and dangerous.
Two people were shot around 5:40 p.m. at the apartment complex, in the 1600 block of SW 37th Terrace. They were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Hughes was arrested on drug charges last summer during increased enforcement efforts in the wake of violence in the Hi-Crest neighborhood. Shawnee Co. District Court records show those charges were later dismissed.
On Wednesday, Topeka Police released a statement that the recent spate of shootings are drug-related and involved people with gang ties. They "are not random," they said.
