People and businesses honored for helping community succeed

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Six different people and businesses were honored Thursday afternoon for working to better the community.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Topeka Charter on Philanthropy hosted "National Philanthropy Day" Awards.

BNSF Railway Foundation was honored for Outstanding Foundation and Advisors Excel received an award for Outstanding Corporation.

Margaret La Rue was honored for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser, Jenalea Randal for Outstanding Young Professional and Liz Stratton for Philanthropic Leadership. Jane Mackey, who received an award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement AFP Member, could not make the ceremony.

"For our community it is very helpful that we have people who support all the programs that go on in our community," said Kim Williams, the President of the Topeka Association of Fundraising Professionals. "We have so many generous folks who help us in many different ways."

Williams said this event is also a good chance to network and plan for ways to improve the area.
