19yo identified as victim in early morning shooting

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka Police say a 19-year-old man died early Friday morning in a shooting in central Topeka.

The man has been identified as 19-year-old Ja’Sean Alston of Topeka.

Police responded to the 1200 block of Washburn Ave around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Two witnesses tell 13 NEWS they saw a person slumped over in the passenger seat after reportedly hearing a female call for help.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Alston suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Drivers should expect SW Washburn between SW Munson and 13th St., and the cross streets between them, to be closed until midday Friday.
