Man killed in south Topeka house fire identified

TOPEKA (WIBW)- Topeka fire officials have identified the man found dead after a fire at a south Topeka home Friday morning.

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Kennedy Karioki Ndungu of Topeka.

Crews arrived to the house at SW 29th and Burlingame Rd. around 1:45 a.m., finding a porch on fire.

Firefighters kept the fire mostly contained to the front porch area, but the house suffered major smoke damage.

Officials say they are investigating the cause of death. No names have been released.

Damage estimates are about $50,000 total -- $40,000 to the structure, and $10,000 to contents.

Southbound traffic on SW Burlingame Road at 29th is expected to remain blocked off for most of the day as fire officials investigate.
