Police release name of man struck and killed by train in Emporia

EMPORIA (WIBW)- Emporia Police have identified the man who was killed after being struck by a train in Emporia late Wednesday.

Emporia Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says the incident involved an eastbound BNSF train and a pedestrian in the 300 block of East St. shortly before 10 p.m.

The pedestrian, identified as 46-year old Charles Weston of Emporia, was struck as he was walking along the railroad right-of-way.

Weston was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sage says it's trespassing to walk along railroad property.

The incident caused north-south traffic delays from Peyton Street west through downtown Emporia for several hours.
