One person died Tuesday morning in after their car collided head-on with a semi south of Goddard.

Deputies first responded to the scene shortly before 4 a.m. after receiving a call about an explosion in the area, according to Sedgwick Co. Sheriff Brad Hoch. When emergency responders arrived, they found the car and tractor-trailer both on fire in the middle of MacArthur between 199th Street and 183rd Street West.

Authorities say the car's driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was taken to a nearby hospital with minor burns.

Hoch said the semi was carrying dry groceries. Fire crews spent hours trying to get the flames under control.

Officers are still investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
