Ohio teen faces federal charges for 2019 hoax at Manhattan school

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- An Ohio teen is facing federal charges after a hoax hostage situation last year at a Manhattan Elementary School.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Cleveland said Allen Kenna, 18, is charged with attempted use of an explosive device and interstate communications of threats.

On November 13, 2019 Riley County Police received multiple calls from someone claiming they were holding a hostage inside Lee Elementary School and would injure anyone who tried to enter.

Officers cleared the school and determined it was a hoax.

Kenna is also being charged in a separate instance in Ohio with attempting to use an explosive device to damage or destroy buildings and real property associated with a High School there.

The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the investigation.
