New Strawn woman convicted of killing husband

NEW STRAWN, Kan. (WIBW) -- The wife of a New Strawn man who died from neglect has been convicted of murder in connection with his death.

On Thursday, a Coffey Co. jury found Carol Sue Burris guilty of reckless second-degree murder and mistreatment of an elder person, Attorney General Derek Schmidt says.

The 69-year-old was accused of the mistreatment of her husband, Micheal D. Burris, from April 2016 to October 2017.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on June 27 in Coffey Co. District Court.

Deputy Attorney General Steve Karrer and Coffey Co. Attorney prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Coffey Co. Sheriff's Dept.
