Neighbors help neighbors during food distribution

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Volunteers braved the rain Tuesday morning to give families and other members of the Topeka community a big boost.

Harvesters, the Topeka TurnAround Team, and Topeka Bible Church teamed up as part of their monthly food distribution. Harvesters donated two truckloads of food and volunteers helped load milk, fruit, vegetables and bread into cars.

One volunteer with the Topeka TurnAround Team said the morning is all about neighbors helping neighbors.

"We are so fortunate to have the volunteers and we are more fortunate that the people come," Delores Smith said. "That people walk and carry bags to pick up food. It's a wonderful thing."

The Topeka Bible Church hosts a food drive the second Tuesday of every month in the Expocentre's South Parking lot.
