Missionary Baptists kick off 2019 convention at Capital Plaza

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Missionary Baptists from all across the state descended upon the Capital Plaza to kick off their 128th annual convention Wednesday.

This unified session brings together church leaders, delegates and youth commissions to get direction from the convention president to take back to their local churches.

They also focus on community building and General Secretary Reverend Bobby Love said building strong communities is what the church's work is all about.

"It's the great commission that we are to make disciples and we come together under one umbrella as a unified session," Love said. "To do that it's all about kingdom building and making our communities a much better place especially in the times in which we are living in right now."

Lieutenant Governor Lynn Rogers gave the welcoming remarks to start off the convention.
