(WIBW) - A Topeka man who went missing several days ago was found dead in Jackson Co.

Sheriff Tim Morse said a person reported finding a deceased person just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on a low-maintenance road, about a half mile north of the Shawnee Co. line.

Morse said responding deputies located a blue Chevy Silverado pickup stuck in the mud on P4 Rd., about one and a half miles west of Hwy. 75. The body of Dannie Smith, 70, was located nearby. Smith's chocolate lab, Bear, was at his side. The dog is reported in good health.

No one had heard from Smith since Jan. 4. Morse said he was known to travel to the reservation in Jackson Co. to buy cigarettes.

Morse says P4 Rd. becomes impassable in wet weather.

An autopsy is being done to determine Smith's cause of death, however Morse said there is nothing to indicate any foul play.
