TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Volunteers were honored Friday for helping disabled and senior citizens in Shawnee and Jefferson Counties.

Meals on Wheels hosted their annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon Friday afternoon. Volunteer Wes Dain was honored with the highest award, the Karl and Irene Rueter Award for Exceptional Service for delivering meals for about 14 years.

The organization SLI received the Corporate Citizen Award for nearly 18 years for supporting the organization.

"Some of these people don't get to see or talk to anybody all day long except to who delivers their meal," Dain said. "It means a lot to them. It means a lot to us volunteers too to know that we're helping somebody."
