Mayetta man captured after two-county chase
A 23-year-old Mayetta man was arrested Wednesday morning following a two-county chase that ended in Jefferson Co., according to the Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office.
Lane Michael Simpson was booked into the Jackson Co. jail on multiple counts, including felony flee and eluding a law enforcement officer and reckless driving, Sheriff Tim Morse said. He was also wanted on warrants in Atchison Co. and Douglas Co. as well as the City of Topeka.
Morse said the chase began around 8:30 a.m. when one of his deputies tried spotting Simpson near the 150th and P Road intersection, in Jackson Co., and tried pulling him over for alleged traffic violations a few blocks later.
The chase took them into Jefferson Co. as the Kansas Highway Patrol's helicopter helped track him, according to Morse. Stop sticks deployed at 102nd and Meriden Road and, after Simpson had turned left onto 90th Road, the front, left tire on his blue 1993 Ford F-250 separated from its rim.
He was then taken into custody about a quarter-mile north of 90th Road, Morse added.
