MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - Around 600 people packed into the Manhattan Convention Center Friday night - part of a celebration.
"Not just the chamber, but the entire community," said Jason Smith, the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce president and CEO.
"We have a wonderful group of leaders, and we get to recognize them today and their service to our organization. We'll get to recognize some really, really special people who've given a lot in terms of volunteering and time and talent."
It's a strong tradition - this is the 95th year the chamber has hosted the meeting and banquet.
The celebration also marks an evolution.
"Well it's a transition. We talk about the transition from one board to the next and committee chairs to the next and so we will thank the people that have served their time in the community and then just recognize the people in 2019 that went above and beyond," Smith said.
Smith says he has big things in store this year.
"There's just a lot of new faces. I think there's going to be a lot of new enthusiasm, a lot of new opportunities, and so I'm real optimistic for what 2020 is going to be."
