Lyon Co. Sheriff says they know who left this guinea pig in a mailbox

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) — A big update in the case of a guinea pig found curled up in the back of a rural Lyon Co. mailbox.

On Thursday, word came that the Lyon Co. Sheriff's Office found out who left the brown and white furball stuck in there like a piece of mail.

Nobody has been arrested at this time. However, a couple of charges, including cruelty to animals, are pending with the Lyon Co. Attorney's Office.

The Sheriff's Office posted the news on its Facebook page the day after they first added a picture of the cute, little guinea pig - its red eyes staring out of the mailbox at an identified home, in the 1600 block of Road G.

Thanks to those piercing red eyes Lyon Co. officials have started calling their rescued rodent Rosita.

Rosita has a date with the veterinarian on Friday, after which it's headed to the local shelter and could be available for adoption soon.
