TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Lupita's Mexican Restaurant is closing its doors for good.

According to a Facebook post by Manny Munoz, whose family owns it, the longtime downtown Topeka restaurant is shutting down after 24 years.

"It is sad to see our mother's dream come to an end after serving the downtown community since 1995, but it's been almost four years since she passed away and it's time for my father to retire," he explained.

Munoz says the family is in discussions with investors who may open a restaurant at that location, 732 S. Kansas Ave. He did not release any details about the negotiations, except that, if they fell through, the storefront would be put up for sale.

Munoz closed by thanking everyone for supporting the Lupitas all of those year.
