TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)-- Athletes at Sports Zone in Topeka spent their practices Wednesday night learning to respect the game and each other.

"I think it was a bad example for the young kids that were there or watching on TV especially for in state rivalries which is better to have more fun" says Coach Cathy Emanuel

Coach Emanuel spent the night running drills, making her team practice working together and cheering each other on.

"We're a team, we're all together, and we should all support each other," said youth volley ball player Annesley Turk

Youth Coaches say physical drills are important but they prepare their kids to handle the emotional side of the game too.

"Don't let anything get to your head, bad calls are made. players will make fun of you, taunt you. Just don't let it get to you and have thick skin," said youth basketball coach Matt Wiltz
