TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A local organization is two days away from one of their biggest events of the year.
Kristi Pankratz, the director of Safe Streets, invited County Commissioners to the annual National Night Out event Saturday. Multiple organizations and businesses are taking part, such as Topeka Police, Shawnee County Sheriff's Office, Parks and Rec, Target and Frito Lay.
Pankratz says it's important to come together as a community.
"Knowing your neighbor is one of the best things you can do in the form of crime prevention. So, once you know your neighbor, you're more invested in the community and more likely to report and act if you see crime going on."
Over 80 neighborhoods and apartment complexes are taking part. Click here to see if yours is on the list.
