EASTON, Kan. (WIBW) -- Leavenworth Co. authorities are warning residents Wednesday to be on alert for an armed and dangerous man.

The Leavenworth Co. Sheriff's Office says Daniel Owens is a person of interest in a shooting that happened at a home in Easton.

When authorities arrived, around 8:15 a.m., they found a 58-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds, KCTV5 reports. The man was conscious and alert as emergency crews took him by ambulance to a local hospital.

Deputies do not know if Owens is in a vehicle or on foot, so they are advising drivers not to give a ride to anyone they see on the roadways. Neighbors told KCTV5 they were locking their doors and keeping an eye on who comes into their neighborhood.

The superintendent for Easton School District said all of its schools were placed on lockout Wednesday.
