Lawrence ranked as the best city for March Madness

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - Their team might not be in the top spot, but a new study says the nation's best college basketball fans live in Douglas County, Kansas.

The personal finance website WalletHub ranked more than 280 cities using nine key metrics to find the best cities for basketball fans this year. The metrics ranged from the number of teams in a city to fans social media engagement.

Lawrence was ranked as the number one city for March Madness out of 279 other cities. The study also ranked Lawrence as having the second best-performing college basketball teams, behind Spokane, Washington.

Manhattan ranked as the 216th best city for basketball fans, Wichita ranked 258 and Kansas City ranked 226.

The other top cities are Durham, South Carolina and Los Angeles, California. The worst on the list are Pocatello, Idaho and New Britain, Connecticut.
