Lawrence police troll K-State fans; Riley Co. police fire back

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Lawrence Police Department took a shot at K-State fans everywhere following Tuesday night's controversial ending to the Sunflower Showdown - and Riley Co. police weren't taking that sitting down.

Wildcat fans were upset when Svi Mykhailiuk apparently traveled on his way nailing a last second shot that gave the Jayhawks the 90-88 win. Replays make it look like the KU guard only dribbled once after passing the half-court line and took several steps before draining the shot.

Shortly after game ended, the apparent K-State fan @conniesell1 tweeted at hometown police department for KU, where the game was played, saying "@LawrenceKS_PD hello I'd like to report a robbery.....he took off on foot."

He also tweeted a picture of a referee's jersey along with the all caps message "next jersey to be hung in the Allen Fieldhouse rafters" along with several other tweets blasting the non-call.

The Lawrence Police Dept. obviously took exception to a Wildcat fan tweeting Wednesday morning to them about the game, but didn't miss the chance, replying to the first tweet with "This is a police dept Twitter account, not a place for jokes. If it were about jokes, we'd talk about how much whining wildcats do about refs."

But, the Riley Co. Police Dept. quickly came to the defense of Wildcat fans, expressing a little concern for the referee, "I'm just surprised you didn't dispatch EMS to make sure the ref didn't accidentally swallow his whistle."
