TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Yes, law enforcement officers know what 420 means too. That's why they plan to step up patrols this weekend to keep our streets safe during the so-called pot smokers holiday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol warns agencies across the state will be out in force over the 4/20 weekend. Officer and deputies will be targeting drugged (and drunk) drivers.
It will also be a "No Refusal Weekend," in which a search warrant will be applied if someone refuses testing during a traffic stop.
For decades, the number 420 has held special significance among marijuana users, ever since a group of California high school students started gathering after school, at 4:20 p.m., to get high - or so the story goes.
Since then, it's permeated the culture worldwide, including the April 20th celebrations.
