Kansas school board approves lawsuit against vaping and e-cigarettes makers
A Kansas school district unanimously signed off on a lawsuit against the makers and sellers of vaping products and e-cigarettes. On Monday, the Goddard Public Schools Board of Education voted 7-0 to authorize the lawsuit.
“Our Board of Education strongly believes electronic cigarettes and vaping products are extremely harmful to our current and future students,” the USD 265 school district said, adding that they consider it their responsibility to protect the students, physically, social, and emotionally.
The move comes just one day before the Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment
the state’s first death from a lung disease linked to vaping. The agency did not identify the person who died, but did say the individual was over 50 year old.
The Board noted the resolution does not require them to use any funds for the case, saying it was the responsibility of its lawyers, Wagstaff & Cartmell.
