Kansas lawmaker takes down false voting information, calling it "a joke"

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Kansas State Rep. John Whitmer posted false voting information on Facebook on Tuesday morning, causing some community members to become upset.

The post read, "Make sure you know when to vote!" and included the correct election day for Republicans, but said the election day for Democrats is two days late. The post finished with the hashtag, #RemainRed.

"It was meant to be lighthearted," Whitmer said when we asked him about the post. He said it was written as a joke and he wouldn't want anyone to be confused.

Several comments from community members were full of anger towards Whitmer saying people should report his post for false information, especially as a sitting state representative.

Wichita City Councilman Brandon Johnson shared the post telling others a sitting representative was posting false voting information and provided correct information.

Whitmer said once he realized someone could take his post seriously, he took it down himself.
