TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas budget expert, Duane Goosen, endorsed Senator Laura Kelly for governor in a news conference Thursday morning.
He said he’ll be voting for Kelly in August and November, and encouraged people to join him.
Goosen says the democrat from Topeka understands how to put Kansas back on sound financial footing.
Goosen served as the state budget director for 12 years under three different governors.
Goosen and Kelly said balancing state spending may be the biggest issue in this year’s governor’s race.
"I think Kansans are fully aware that the last eight years their priorities have been ignored. Their priorities are education, health care, and infrastructure, transportation. Those are all very budget related,” Kelly said.
Kelly also is endorsed by former Governor Kathleen Sebelius, and former Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger.
Other democrats vying for the nomination include former state agriculture secretary Josh Svaty, and former Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer.
