TOPEKA (WIBW) -- Six dancers from Kansas Ballet Academy traveled to New York City last month to represent the city of Topeka at the world famous Youth America Grand Prix ballet competition. They are Eliza Barton, Natalia Buono, Meagan Cameron, Madison Gill, Guinevere Nelson and Lilia Potter.

The YAGP Organization held over 35 regional try-outs in 11 countries and elite dancers from all over the world converged in NYC for the finals. Kansas Ballet Academy dancers performed extremely well on the international stage and made their teachers Alexander Smirnov and Stephanie Heston proud!

The dancers also spent time as tourists in the Big Apple, visiting Rockefeller Center, Top of the Tower at NBC, a firehouse in midtown Manhattan and of course the famous Lincoln Center. Closing night celebrations included a gala at the Koch Theater (home of the New York City Ballet) entitled "The Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow" in which young YAGP students performed alongside some of the most famous names in professional ballet. How exciting!

Next up for these dancers and some of the other KBA student dancers -- is a national festival! After an intense judging process, Kansas Ballet was selected to perform at the 2019 Regional Dance America Festival that will take place at KU over Memorial Day weekend.
