(WIBW) - Kansas is home to an Oscar winner!
University of Kansas Professor Kevin Willmott won an academy award for best adapted screenplay for Spike Lee's BlaKkKlansman.
Willmott shares the award with Charlie Wachtel, David Rabinowitz and Spike Lee.
Their script is based on the real story of Ron Stallworth, the first African American police officer and detective in Colorado Springs who planned an undercover investigation into the local Ku Klux Klan chapter in the late 1970's.
