TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Some Northeast Kansas residents will have a little bit extra in their stockings this Christmas, all thanks to the Kansas Treasurer's Office.
13 NEWS partnered again this year with the state to help reunite unclaimed cash with its rightful owners.
According to their website there were 54,750 searches, and more than $508,000 returned to its owners.
State Treasurer Jake LaTurner says, the state currently is the custodian of more than $350 million of unclaimed property.
This unclaimed money could include old payroll checks, or unclaimed life-insurance policies.
LaTurner says the average claim is more than $220.
