TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Truck drivers from across the state are putting their driving skills to the test this weekend.

The Kansas Motor Carriers Association is hosting their annual truck driving championship in Topeka. They started the event with a meeting Friday morning before going into three stages of testing and competition.

Kay Hendrix, Director of Safety for the KMCA, said people don't realize the role truckers play in all of our lives.

"Everything inside your house, everything inside your car comes on a truck," Hendrix said. "Trucks move America forward. Everything these gentlemen and women in this room provide you brings you not only the food in your refrigerator but the clothes on your back."

The winners of this competition will head to Pittsburgh for nationals.

You can also watch the driving competition Friday night until 7 p.m. in the Expocentre south parking lot.
