KBI releases medical report on Lyon County inmate death
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation released a report showing intoxication as the contributing cause of a Lyon County Jail inmate's death.
KVOE Radio reports Christopher Mejia was found unresponsive October 30th, and efforts to revive him were not successful.
According to KVOE, a Kansas Bureau of Investigation report states Mejia had been treated at Newman Hospital for possible alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
Once back at the jail, he complained he might have a seizure, then collapsed and apparently hit his head on the toilet and sink.
The KBI report says an autopsy could not determine Mejia 's manner of death, but listed the cause as overwhelming below-skin bleeding, associated with cirrhosis of the liver.
Mejia had been booked for criminal trespass.
