Hundreds celebrate Indian culture at Topeka's Diwali Festival

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Hundreds came together at the Manor Conference Center Sunday afternoon to celebrate Indian culture.

The Diwali festival, or the Festival of Light, brings together people from all backgrounds for food, music, and community.

The Indian Association of Topeka presented a check at the event to Habitat for Humanity – the beneficiary for this past summer's IndiaFest.

Gov. Laura Kelly joined in on the celebration.

"It's so nice to see everybody gather together,” Kelly said. “The Indian community has been so welcoming and generous to the rest of the Topeka community, and so we're seeing hundreds of people here just to take advantage of the food which is absolutely to die for, but then also to just share cultural traditions."

The event has been going on since 2002 and has grown in size every year.
