Huelskamp snark about former Speaker blows up on Twitter
A former Kansas congressman's unexpected response to a reporter's mistaken text is making waves in the Twitterverse - and providing another reason texting and driving is a bad idea.
On Friday, Matt Fuller, who covers Congress at HuffPost, tweeted, "You haven't lived until you've tried texting your cousin a crude bday message while driving and accidentally texted a former Congressman." He attached a picture showing his message to former Rep. Tim Huelskamp, "Happy bday $#!*head."
Fuller followed up that tweet with one promising to never text and drive again (which, of course, no should ever do, ever) and a bit of a tease, noting Huelskamp's reply "was perfect (and off-the-record)."
Well, it seemed the former House republican, who represented the 1st Dist. from 2011-2017, didn't mind people finding out what he said and gave Fuller permission to post it. In it, Fuller followed up his initial message, by explaining that it wasn't meant for Huelskamp, rather he meant to send it to "my cousin Tim."
To which Huelskamp replied,
Huelskamp was referring to former Speaker of the House John Boehner, who led House GOP for the first four years Huelskamp was in Congress before stepping down in September 2015.
For a little icing on the cake, Fuller admitted he doesn't even have a cousin named Tim.
He followed up those tweets with a quick note for his followers, "Periodic reminder that a lot of the Congressmen you people despise are really great on a personal level."
And, in case you were wondering, Huelskamp's birthday is November 11.
