TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A tree in Manhattan used for holiday celebrations is no longer standing after strong winds knocked it down Thursday.

The City of Manhattan announced on their Facebook page the Mayor's Christmas Tree in Triangle Park blew down after wind speeds got up to 50 miles per hour.

The City says the commission will decide what to do next.

The tree was planted in 1995 and the roots were decaying by the time it blew over.

No one was hurt, but the city asks everyone to be careful Thursday with the wind.
