HIAWATHA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Hiawatha Schools has launched an investigation into allegations of racial bullying targeting one of its students.
In a letter to parents and guardians, USD 415 Superintendent Lonnie Moser only said the allegations involved one or more students bullying the victim. The letter did not detail how the alleged harassment happened, however some people have reported seeing images on social media.
"Please know this matter is being taken very seriously and is currently under investigation," Moser told them.
Moser explained the administration learned about it on Wednesday and has taken some first steps in addressing the issue, however he did not expand what those actions were. He added the investigation is still ongoing and the Hiawatha Police Dept. is conducting its own investigation.
After it concludes, Moser says the school district will act in concordance with its established policies.
