Help pick the name of the Emporia Zoo's baby lemur twins

By  |

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) -- And, then there were 5.

The Emporia Zoo has been taking suggestions for names for its two new, baby Ring-Tailed Lemur twins. After wading through over 400 submissions, the Emporia Zoo has whittled the list down to just a handful.

Now, you can help pick the winning names - by voting with your dollars.

From now until 5:00 p.m., October 26, you can drop coins and dollars into slots at the zoo corresponding with each set of names. Zoo officials will tally all of the donations and whichever pair of names received the most will be the ones on the backs of the lemurs baseball jerseys.*

Here's the list of nominees, and why they were picked:

* Arusha means independent, creative and ambitious.
* Akeyla means love nature and the outdoors.
* The names came from the book “We all went on safari”

* Rue means herb of grace
* Ren means ruler.

*Rose means “love & kind”
*Lilly means “innocence & beauty”

* The two rivers that “ring” our town and also, where these beautiful creatures were born

*The names represent the lemur personalities that were described by the keepers in the gazette.

If you can't make it to the zoo, but still want to vote, you can send your donation to:

Emporia Friends of the Zoo (EFOZ)

(please note in the comments section the names you are voting for)

*- Note: The lemurs won't actually get jerseys, but wouldn't that be awesome if they did.
