Hale Library at Kansas State University has reopened the first floor
Just over sixteen months have passed since the devastating fire at Hale Library and, on Wednesday morning, they reopened the doors to the public.
It was obvious that the students have missed having the library open. With more than 1,200 students coming through the doors in just over four hours.
Many of them were already asking about accessing the library and putting the new amenities to work.
The Hale Library staff added many new ideas to the first floor based on suggestions from students and observations they’ve made on how students utilized the previous space.
“I think the students are really liking the white boards, and the group study rooms. They also like the homey feel. We’ve heard people say it feels very comfortable and welcoming.” Kansas State University, Dean of Libraries, Lori Goetsch says.
With construction still ongoing the library will be open Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 AM to 10:00 pm, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. They will close for Labor Day weekend and will reopen on Tuesday morning from 7:00 AM until 10:00 PM.
Goetsch says that they hope to open their 24/5 access, which is from noon on Sundays to 6:00 PM on Fridays, by mid-terms of the Fall 2019 semester.
