Grant will help Brown Co. Sheriff's Office find stolen cars

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A grant will help the Brown County Sheriff's Department find stolen cars and help keep officers safe.

Sheriff John Merchant announced Thursday his office was selected to received a $45,050 grant as part of the Federal Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Grant Program.

Sheriff Merchant says the money would be used to purchase 3 Mobile Automatic License Plate Readers, which will help deputies locate stolen cars and vehicles of interest more easily. The system can also be linked to other law enforcement databases, which will help when accessing Amber or Silver Alerts.
