As we're in the middle of tax season, shredding events are popping up across the area to help you get rid of your personal documents.

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is hosting several free document destruction events to mark the start of National Consumer Protection Week. Participants are limited to three small bags or boxes of documents they wish to destroy.

In Emporia, the Bowler Community Center, U.S. Hwy 50 and Industrial Rd., is having shredding from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday, the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 1930 Harper Rd., in Lawrence, is hosting shredding from 4 to 6 p.m.

You can shred documents Saturday in Topeka at the Judicial Center, SW 12th St. and Van Buren St. from 9 a.m. to noon.
