JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- A Junction City elementary school was locked down early Wednesday afternoon as authorities searched for someone who may have been involved in a shooting.

According to the Geary Co. Sheriff's Office, deputies found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound shortly after 2 p.m. when they responded to the 3400 block of Liberty Hall Road, west of Junction City. Authorities did not identify the individual, only describing him as a man in his early 20's.

The victim told investigators he was shot by a man with dark complexion, wearing blue jeans and a white shirt, the Sheriff's Office said.

Teaming up with the Junction City Police Dept., they set up a perimeter and searched the area on foot and with a K-9. Meanwhile, the Kansas Highway Patrol dispatched one of its aerial units to see if they could spot the suspect from the sky.

During the search, Spring Valley Elementary was placed on a brief lock down until officers determined there was no threat to public safety.

The victim was taken to Geary Co. Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing. The Sheriff's Office says they have no evidence of a threat to the community at large.
