TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Officials in Geary County say they rescued someone from the Kansas River after his boat became stranded on an island of trees Monday night.

The Geary Co. Sheriff's Office and Junction City Police Dept. both responded to the Grant Ave. boat ramp around 9:50 p.m. Monday night. A 35-year-old man had mechanical issues with his 14-foot Jon boat and became stranded.

The Geary Co. Sheriff's Office used their flat bottomed boat to get the man safely to shore.

Officials say he didn't put on his life jacket until law enforcement told him to do so.
